Join us for a memorable ride on an unforgettable adventure along Iceland’s black sand beaches.
This scenic tour is suitable for riders of all levels, including beginners.
For the safety and comfort of all participants, the ride takes place exclusively at walking pace. The deep volcanic sand and the wellbeing of our horses make this a calm and mindful riding experience. With a small group size of max. 5 guests, we ensure a personal atmosphere and attentive guidance throughout the tour.
Saddle up and follow the coastline along striking black dunes, feeling the fresh ocean breeze as you ride beside calm waves and head towards the open sea. With a bit of luck, you may spot seals swimming playfully in the water or resting lazily on the beach. The journey ends at a vast, untouched beach, with breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Westman Islands on one side and Eyjafjallajökull on the other.
Our experienced and passionate guides will introduce you to the unique Icelandic horse – known for its friendly nature and smooth gaits. These sure-footed companions will carry you confidently across the ancient sands of the South Coast, revealing a side of Iceland few get to see.
This tour offers a peaceful yet powerful way to experience Iceland’s raw natural beauty — ideal for those looking for a slower, more immersive connection with the landscape and the horse.
Important info:
This tour takes place in South Iceland, approx. 1.5 hours from Reykjavík.
Minimum age: 10 years
Max. weight: 110 kg / 240 lbs
Riders must be able to mount and dismount independently.
Note: For safety, the tour pace is always adapted to the rider with the least experience. As such, it is very likely that the entire ride will be in walk.
Looking for a faster-paced ride? A private tour can be arranged upon request for more experienced riders. Please note, however, that we ride mostly through deep sand, so the pace must be adapted to the horses’ needs.
What to bring: Warm layers (e.g., thermal underwear, wool/fleece sweater, scarf, gloves, windproof jacket), riding breeches or leggings, waterproof or water-resistant riding/hiking boots, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Please be aware that the weather in Iceland can be very unpredictable, and in case of extreme conditions, we may need to adjust the tour route accordingly.
Feel free to contact us by phone at any time if you would like a different time slot or if the availability on the website doesn’t meet your needs. We can’t make any promises, but sometimes you get lucky and something is still available.
Between Hella and Hvolsvöllur there is one road called “Oddavegur”. The sign on the main road says “Oddi” where you have to turn. You take Oddavegur all the way down until it is not possible to drive straight anymore (first asphalt, then continue on gravel path). In the end of the road you turn to the right and then the farm “Grimsstadir” is on the right side of the road
